Breaking Out of Your Slump: 17 Fresh Content Ideas

Get out of the slump

1. Change of scenery

2. Read something new

3. Write when your best ideas flow

In the world of content creation, it’s easy to hit walls in creativity. Writer’s block, writer’s slump, or similar descriptions all refer to the same thing: a block to new ideas. It happens to every content creator. Here are 3 ideas to help get you out of the slump, followed by 17 ideas.

Change of scenery If you often write at home, pack up and head to the library, a coffee shop, the park, or some other new place. Make sure to have suitable seating so that discomfort doesn’t become another hurdle to your work. Usually, the new environment will help with creativity. If starting to write becomes a challenge, use a writing prompt to help you get started. The writing prompt doesn’t need to be about any specific topic. The idea is to get started writing, which may help you come up with ideas for the work you need to accomplish.

Read something new Pick up a book you haven’t read before. Go to a website or blog you haven’t read in a while. Sift through the pages on the WordPress app and find new blogs. New ideas often stem from new content you haven’t read before.

Write when your best ideas flow If you’ve been creating content for any length of time, you know when your best ideas flow. During morning workouts, long walks or driving long distances in the car are my most creative times. During those times that work for you, keep a notepad handy or use the notes feature on your phone to begin tracking ideas for content. The voice memo feature also works great if you’re trying to get started immediately.

There are many other ways to break out of a writing or content slump. Try one of the above to help get the creative ideas flowing. Remember to be relatable, original and provide helpful information. Next, let’s look at 17 fresh content ideas.

1. Create an original “how-to” video. Pick the preferred platform. Showcase how to do something that comes easily to you.

2. Create an original review of a product. Pick something used often that you can explain the details of the product, including what you love and don’t love.

3. Create an engaging content series that keeps readers returning to see what’s next. It’s possible to incorporate other ideas like “a how-to series” that happens weekly or a “weekly product review: what we love and what we don’t.” Even a simple weekly photo of your favorite pet bunny, pig, cow, dog, or cat is a great series to start. People love animals, so if you can be creative and engaging, they’ll keep coming back.

4. Memes are always fun. Always. There’s really not ever a time when memes aren’t a great way to engage with your audience.

5. Create a challenge with your audience. Encourage kindness, support, and love for others by hosting a challenge. “Do something nice for a stranger.” “Pay it forward and by someone’s coffee.” “Support your local food pantry and buy canned food.” The key is to encourage people who participate to tag you back when they do it.

6. Create a post featuring a customer. If you’re a small business, feature a customer who makes your day better, loves your product, or has impacted your life somehow.

7. Post a question and answer.

8. Ask for customer feedback. Ask specific questions that allow customers to give feedback to you as a business owner. This can be a great exercise in learning ways to improve, generating ideas, and growing thick skin. Being in business is not for the faint of heart, so you’ll learn to take criticism and use it to make you better. If it’s just mean, you’ll learn to ignore it.

9. Share customer feedback or reviews. You have customers who love you and love what you do. Ask them for feedback to share on your page.

10. Share what you’re working on today. Think of BeReal and show in the moment what working looks like for you. Let’s be honest, 5 a.m. writing sessions in pajamas with coffee can be scary, but there’s probably a fun way to use that content without being too cringe.

11. Create a post explaining, showing, or demonstrating your company culture. What do you value? What do you stand for? What do you love and participate in?

12. Create a post with the weekend in mind. It could be a reel of what you did on the weekend or what you plan to do.

13. Create questions for your audience. What would you like to know about your followers? Ask those questions.

14. Share other content. Think of other businesses like yours or content creators and share their content while tagging them.

15. Repurpose or reshare. Use old content to reshare. New followers likely missed it.

16. What are you doing today? Share exactly what work looks like today.

17. Exciting content that’s launching soon. You may have a big project in the works. Create content to tease what might be coming without jumping too far ahead.

If all else fails and creating content or writing is still a painful challenge, open up a fresh page and brain-dump everything clogging your creativity. It could be that your plate is too full, and you need to write down everything in your mind to eliminate chaos and distraction.
